ST IVES - Monday 16th - Monday 23rd September 2024 Week's itinerary may possibly be subject to change - due to weather conditions / minibus etc MONDAY 16th Sept TRAVEL DAY / FISH & CHIP SUPPER We recommend catching the 10.03 am train from Paddington to St Ives (St Erth change trains ) which arrives 3.30 pm and is *£120 return - £170 depending on availability and how many changes of trains etc. The train prices quoted are Off Peak train fares. See timetables at bottom of document: (*Train fare is not included in Holiday price) 6.30 pm - Group table booked at the famous St Ives 'Mermaid' restaurant for Fish & Chips and a glass of wine (vegetarian meal alternative is available) Please note: The meal provided is a Set Fish and Chips meal with a glass of wine which is included in the Holiday price ACTIVITY Intro to Holiday - Cleo and Mark to hand out holiday info booklets TUESDAY 17th September TOUR & SKETCHING Artist Inspiration Alfred Wallis 11 am Guided Walk (up to 2 hours) with local guide (alternately please feel free to join a festival event – St Ives festival programme will be handed out) Lunch break (student provides own lunch) 2.30 pm ACTVITY: Meet at Smeaton's Pier for Mixed Media Drawings inspired by Alfred Wallis. 5.45 PM meet at A1 Mini Cab office Mini Bus will take us up from St Ives town to the Bernard Leach studios at ART ACTIVITY: Bernard Leach Pottery Tour and Pinchpot session (NOTE: Unfortunately we don’t have room for partners for the Leach workshop) 7.30 pm Mini Bus back to St Ives WEDNESDAY 18th September MICHAEL’S MOUNT Artist Inspiration Ben Nicholson 9.30 am Meet at A1 Cars office on the front (11 students + 3 non painting partners + 2 tutors) NOTE: fee for Non Painting partners if they attend is £85 per trip ACTIVITY: Watercolour painting with Cleo - views of St Michael’s mount and Acrylic Painting / Acrylic pens with Mark of Castle Environs (Ferry fee combines with the Castle entrance all of which is included in your holiday fee) You may be able to walk across to the castle - depending on tide being low - if tide is high we will get boat across instead Lunch at the Island Cafe (students provide their own lunch) on the Eastern side of the Island close to the main lawn entrance 4 pm Minibus back to St Ives THURSDAY 19th September BARBARA HEPWORTH & TATE Artist inspiration: Barbara Hepworth 10 AM: ART ACTIVITY: Sketching at the Tate and Barbara Hepworth's Museum (those who have their own Tate membership will get a Tate St Ives tote bag in place of having museum fee paid for) 12.45 PM Lunch break (student provides own lunch) 2.15 PM Meet at the Island Hall in central St Ives ART ACTIVITY Making paper & card maquettes inspired by Hepworth Photograph the maquettes on harbour wall (weather permitting!) 5 pm Break for day FRIDAY 20th September PRINT WORKSHOP 10 am ART ACTIVITY Printing Workshop with Local artist Rachel Kantaris (NOTE: Non Painting Partners are invited to attend – price of workshop is included in holiday.) 3 pm Free Time for your choice of activities SATURDAY 21st September MAN AN TOL STONES Artist Inspiration Patrick Heron and Peter Lanyon *Earlier start 9.15 am Meet at A1 Mini Cab office. Minibus out to Zennor - passing by ‘Eagle's Nest ‘(Patrick Heron's former house) then stopping off at the Man An Tol Stone site - ART ACTIVITY sketching at the Man An Tol stones site. Early Lunch 12 pm at the famous 'Tinner’s Arms' in Zennor (DH Lawrence's old haunt) meal - student provides own lunch Pub meals here are approx. £20 for light lunch and approx. £35 for a three course meal - this price doesn’t include drinks) Minibus back to St Ives 2.30 pm Meet at the Island Hall Centre ART ACTIVITY Acrylics Session with Mark to explore your sketch ideas from the mornings outing Break for day at 5.30 pm SUNDAY 22nd September BOAT TRIP Artist inspiration - various artists 9.45 am Meet at harbour for the boat trip (approximately 80 minutes) included in holiday fee (students to take sketch books) There may be space for Non Painting Partners but this is TBC the day before due to numbers allowed on boat. ACTIVITY: Mackerel fishing trip OR Seal Island Trip Monday 23rd September FEEDBACK SESSION 11 am Meet at the St Ives Harbour Hotel coffee and biscuits served ACTIVITY: Feedback for Art - Please bring your homework and also your luggage (which can be stored at the hotel ) work Feedback and video of your holiday. We are aiming to finish feedback by 2 pm at the latest then you can stroll 6 minutes to the station to catch train home.
