FAQ's Will I learn much? Yes, Cleo's way of teaching is very encouraging and she really helps you to 'see' , to observe things more than usual. Plus sketching for the weekend is such a precious exercise in itself. So good to draw for several days as we so rarely get time set aside to be creative.
I am a beginner will this be okay? Yes absolutely! Pen and Wash is a very forgiving technique for all levels!
How big a sketchbook do I need to bring? A4 or larger if you're happy to carry it.
What if I am not able to walk very much? The bus is great as it takes you to the heart of each location, so walking is kept to a moderate amount. However, if you have difficulties walking , then you could take a Taxi or Uber to and from locations (at your own cost).
Can I wander off and do my own thing? Yes absolutely! We will have a WhatsApp group so we can keep in touch with you but feel free to wander off as you choose.
Should I get a Metro train pass too? Yes I recommend you get a Metro as the Hop on Hop off bus will to be stopping near each of your hotels.
Do we eat together in the evenings? Yes, the nice thing about these holidays is you can all go out as a group. The second evening (Saturday) we will book a table for you all at the famous Cafe Flore **Everyone pays for their own meal, but this cafe is a must see in Paris.
What materials do we need? A cartridge ink pen, or a fine liner pen with a 0.7mm nib, some watercolour brush pens such as: ERCENTURY Water Brush Pen Sets (which you can fill with diluted watercolour paints before you set off each day) a range of pencils and an A4 sketchbook (watercolour books are best with smooth paper - you can even just make your own books from bound sheets of paper.
What is 'Pen and Wash' technique? 'Pen and Wash' is simply a wash of watercolour paint or ink and when its dry (which takes a under a few minutes) you add Pen marking on top. It's a lovely way to work.
I don't like drawing buildings will there be much for me to draw instead? Dont worry! Paris is teeming with life everywhere you turn. There is so much to soak up and draw! Plus Cleo's Wash and Pen technique is very loose and forgiving to do - so beginners will manage fine.
Do I pay for my own travel? Yes you cover your own travel (Eurostar do very reasonable all inclusive train and hotel packages)
Do I pay for my own hotel? Yes you cover your own accommodation (Eurostar do very reasonable all inclusive train and hotel packages)
Where should I stay? I recommend the 5th Arrondissement or the Latin Quarter for a hotel because its a lovely area.
What is included in the £440 fee? All tuition from Cleo Harrington MA (RCA) / sixty minute SEINE river cruise ticket on Friday evening / Two day 'Hop on Hop off' bus Pass
Can I get a refund me if I find I can't go? We can refund you in full ** if you cancel by the 1st January 2024 ** but sadly not after that sorry.
Please also note, that our insurance as organisers doesn't cover us to be able refund anyone if a Pandemic or Covid outbreak were to hit Europe - or such like - and prevented us from going on holiday. So we would not be offering refunds and instead would reschedule the holiday to a future date.
What else do I need? Comfortable shoes, a bottle of water and a rucksack!
